Japan considers local grants to ease LP gas and extra-high-voltage electricity costs

Internal Affairs Minister Hisayuki Fujii said the government is considering using grants to local authorities for winter energy-cost relief, including LP gas and extra-high-voltage electricity not covered by national support. He said the amount would be considered with reference to the ¥100 billion allocated in the fiscal 2026 supplementary budget. Support would run until the planned food consumption-tax rate reduction in April 2027, he said.
