MarineTraffic reports Northern Sea Route cargo up 65% in 2026

MarineTraffic reported that cargo flows along Russia’s Northern Sea Route reached approximately 8 million tonnes in 2026, up 65% year-on-year, driven by increased LNG and crude oil shipments. MarineTraffic and Kpler data indicated a longer navigation season and larger vessels, with average deadweight tonnage rising from 60,000 in 2025 to 75,000 in 2026. The report said ice conditions, insurance challenges and limited ice-class vessel capacity continued to constrain the corridor.
