South Korean budget office challenges corporate support spending from proposed victim-relief fund

South Korea's National Assembly Budget Office criticized plans to use a proposed victim-relief fund for corporate privacy consulting and post-breach recovery, saying companies should bear those costs. The Personal Information Protection Commission allocated 4.698 billion won for corporate privacy-management support and breach recovery in its 2027 proposal. The budget office recommended considering general-budget funding for corporate support instead. A commission official defended the proposal as indirect victim assistance, saying rapid recovery and prevention could limit further harm.
