COP31 to open in Antalya with focus on existing climate pledges and electrification
Climate negotiators from almost 200 countries are set to gather at COP31 in Antalya, Turkey, starting Nov. 9, with the summit focused on implementing existing commitments rather than setting ambitious new goals. Organizers are seeking support for a proposal to raise electricity’s share of global final energy consumption from just over 20% to 35% by 2035. Some 60,000 diplomats, officials and advocates are expected to participate in talks addressing emissions reductions, climate finance and adaptation.
