China announces year-end crackdown on harmful short-form dramas and AI misuse
China’s broadcast and internet regulator announced a special crackdown on short-form dramas running through December 31, targeting harmful and sexually suggestive content as well as low-quality AI-generated works. The campaign also covers unauthorized AI use of other people’s faces or voices and productions lacking required registration or review. Online platforms will face stronger oversight of promotional material, repackaged duplicate dramas and recommendations of similar content.
