South Korea to inspect foreign seasonal workers’ rights at about 160 fishing households

South Korea’s oceans and justice ministries announced inspections of about 160 fishing households employing foreign seasonal workers, scheduled for November 9–27. Checks will cover employment contracts, winter accommodation, mandatory insurance, unpaid wages and workers’ freedom of communication and movement. Problems will trigger requests for corrective action; continued noncompliance could result in penalty points for local governments and restrictions on foreign seasonal worker allocations.
