South Korean workdays lost to labor disputes rise 45.2% despite fewer disputes

The Korea Enterprises Federation disclosed figures showing 489,190 workdays lost to labor disputes through September, up 45.2% from a year earlier, while the number of disputes fell to 88 from 99. Its review highlighted strikes in major manufacturing industries, including automobiles and shipbuilding, and growing demands for workers to receive fixed percentages of corporate profits. The federation warned that disruptions at individual manufacturers could spread to suppliers and related industries.
