Novartis to stop pelacarsen development for cardiovascular disease after failed trial

Novartis said it will discontinue development of pelacarsen for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease after a seven-year study involving 8,322 patients found no cardiovascular benefit. The monthly injection substantially lowered Lp(a), an inherited cholesterol-carrying particle, but did not reduce heart attacks or strokes. One trial will continue in patients with calcific aortic valve stenosis, a heart valve disease.
