ECB candidate de Cos urges vigilance on inflation risks from high energy prices

Pablo Hernández de Cos, one of two candidates to succeed Christine Lagarde as European Central Bank president, urged policymakers to remain vigilant about inflation risks from high energy prices. In an interview published Saturday, he said second-round effects on prices and wage demands had not yet appeared. De Cos, who heads the Bank for International Settlements, said any interest-rate increases should be driven by emerging data showing risks to price stability.
