European Commission provisionally finds TikTok recommendations violate EU digital rules

The European Commission announced a preliminary finding that TikTok’s recommendation feature violates the EU’s Digital Services Act. It judged that repeated exposure to videos about sadness, isolation and physical characteristics could harm children’s mental well-being, and that safeguards were insufficient. TikTok can respond to the findings; if a violation is ultimately confirmed, it could face a fine of up to 6% of global revenue.
