Japan announces expanded training and joint patrols for U.S. forces in Okinawa

Japan’s Foreign Ministry announced measures agreed with the United States following an October robbery-murder involving a U.S. Marine at a hotel in Naha. The measures include expanded education for U.S. personnel in Okinawa with Japanese participation and stronger joint patrols. A program to deepen understanding of Okinawa’s culture, history and community relations is planned for fiscal 2027.
