French Private-Sector Real Wages Fall 1.1% in Third Quarter

French private-sector wages fell 1.1% from a year earlier in inflation-adjusted terms in the third quarter, labor statistics released Friday showed. The figures come ahead of a Monday conference of labor and employer unions on wages and purchasing power. Labor Minister Jean-Pierre Farandou floated raising the minimum wage to match inflation and bringing a scheduled increase forward from January to December; the proposal could lift monthly net earnings to €1,500.
