South Korean metalworkers' union demands punishment of shipyard executives over worker deaths

The Korean Metal Workers' Union's Gwangju–South Jeolla branch demanded strict punishment of senior shipyard management at a press conference in Mokpo on November 6. The union said four workers had died at the shipyard over three years without improvements in conditions. It alleged that a worker in his 20s found dead inside a vessel under construction on November 3 had been working alone and that gas concentrations had not been properly measured.
