IEA forecasts 11% decline in global renewable capacity additions in 2026

The International Energy Agency’s Renewables 2026 report forecasts an 11% decline in global annual renewable capacity additions in 2026, ending 21 consecutive years of records but leaving additions at their second-highest level. Over 2026–2031, emerging and developing economies outside China are expected to add about 1,100 gigawatts, matching advanced economies for the first time. The report projects nearly 4,800 gigawatts of global renewable capacity growth over that period.
