Macquarie CEO says US data-center backlash could create opportunities for Australia
Macquarie Group’s outgoing chief executive, Shemara Wikramanayake, said opposition to data centers following US midterm elections could give Australia an opportunity to supply more AI computing capacity. She cited Australia’s land, sunshine, energy and capacity for cable connections to the US West Coast. However, she questioned whether the opportunity would be fully realized and urged government and regulators to enable private-sector investment.
