Hong Kong privacy watchdog backs proposed restrictions on land-record searches
Hong Kong Privacy Commissioner Ada Chung Lai-ling backed proposed tighter access to land records, saying journalists have no exemption under the Privacy Ordinance when collecting data. The proposed regime would restrict searches to nine specified purposes, with public-interest applications reviewed case by case. Chung said the watchdog received 20 complaints about misuse of land-register information over five years, including six this year.
