China's third-quarter emissions fell 3.1%, CREA analysis says

China's carbon dioxide emissions from energy and industry fell 3.1% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2026, the biggest quarterly decline since the pandemic, according to a CREA analysis released Friday for Carbon Brief. The analysis reported a 4% decline in oil use as the Strait of Hormuz crisis curbed energy shipments, alongside a 3.3% fall in coal use. It found emissions fell 0.5% over the first three quarters of the year.
