South Korean authorities to waive 140% margin-loan collateral requirement for three months

South Korean authorities agreed to waive securities firms’ requirement to maintain a 140% collateral ratio on margin loans for three months, starting November 9, according to Yonhap. The measure aims to prevent excessive forced selling from amplifying stock-market volatility. The finance ministry said officials agreed on the measure at a November 6 meeting in Seoul and would prepare additional stabilization measures if volatility increased further.
