Met Police chief Rowley proposes regional forces in England and Wales policing overhaul

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley is proposing replacing the 43-force structure in England and Wales with eight to 10 regional forces, local policing commands and a National Police Service. In a planned Friday speech, he will warn that policing is “heading for failure” without reform, arguing that its structure cannot keep pace with modern criminals. The Association of Police and Crime Commissioners supports modernisation but questions the case for regional mergers.
