Takaichi considers cash-payment eligibility covering at least 30% of workers

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said the government would consider making cash payments linked to consumption-tax cuts available to at least about 30% of workers. She also raised the possibility of increasing the annual-income eligibility ceiling above ¥3.5 million, while saying further data analysis was needed. The lower house was expected to pass a bill that afternoon cutting the consumption tax on food to 1% for two years from fiscal 2027.
