Brazil approves first critical minerals list, prioritizing rare earths, copper, lithium and uranium

Brazil approved its first list of 27 critical and strategic minerals at the inaugural meeting of its national minerals council, attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Rare earths, copper, lithium and uranium are among the top priorities. The government plans to prioritize financing and other support for minerals facing greater geopolitical risk and import dependence; higher-priority minerals will also face greater scrutiny of ownership transfers and offtake agreements under legislation approved in September.
