Pentagon confirms boats and Humvees for National Guard in Washington as local leaders seek withdrawal

The Pentagon confirmed plans to equip National Guard troops in Washington, D.C., with Humvees, boats, tactical military trucks and marked patrol cars through year-end. According to an Oct. 29 internal memo obtained by The Washington Post, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth authorized the upgrades, including unarmed boats for operations near Anacostia Park with a federal law enforcement officer aboard. D.C. Council public safety committee chair Brooke Pinto said she planned to ask incoming Democratic governors to end Guard deployments to Washington.
