Hong Kong police plan to activate AI facial recognition on CCTV network in November
Hong Kong police plan to enable AI facial recognition on their SmartView surveillance network this month to track missing persons and suspects, with generated data retained for up to 180 days. Senior superintendent Eric Leung Ming-leung said the system would support retrospective searches and real-time alerts. He said searches would require approval from an inspector or above, while police said privacy safeguards would apply.
